Global warming is something that virtually everyone in the United States has heard of, but very few can define. In other words, people are familiar with the term “Global Warming” and understand that the term refers to a situation where the environment has possibly been negatively impacted by human actions. There exists a controversy about the issue mainly because it have become politicized by factions on both sides of the belief coin as global warming remains a theory, but still remains a theory as opposed to empirical fact.

The definition of global warming is as follows: a slow increase of the atmosphere of the lower earth’s temperature. This increase in temperature may be the result of an increase in greenhouse gases as they have been produced en mass since the dawn of the industrial revolution. Essentially, there is an increase in shortwave light emanating from the sun which is able to travel to earth’s atmosphere without restriction. The impact that this can have on the earth could be significant and significant in a negative way. This is why many people have serious concerns over the issue, although quite honestly there are those on both sides of the fence who politicize the issue which makes seeing the legitimacy or illegitimacy of the issue in an unclouded manner difficult.

However, it is highly wise to keep an open mind on the issue and view the information with an unclouded mind and try not to be influenced by those who have politicized the issue. That is, pay attention to unbiased, empirical data as opposed to those who have not truly examined or studied the issue. Granted, this is easier said than done because, quite honestly, not everyone has a scientific background and some of the data on the subject may not be easily understood by those unfamiliar with the issue. Hence, it would be wise to invest significant time studying the subject of global warming before making a decision on the subject matter.
